The NBA Draft had its twist and turns and several big name changed teams. However, on the day after the draft, two of the top point guards in the league will be traded in a deal that will be completed July 18th, the date that free agents can sign with their teams. Jason Kidd of Phoenix, who was ranked as my #2 point guard in my recent June issue of Monter Draft News, will be dealt to New Jersey for Stephen Marbury, my number three playmaker. Kidd averaged 16.9 points, 6.4 rebounds and 9.8 assists this past season in 77 games. He led all point guards in rebounds and led the NBA in assists. Marbury paced all point guards with 23.9 points per game and he added 7.6 assists and 3.1 rebounds per game. The deal will involve a few minor players since Marbury makes $11,250,000 and Kidd makes $8,503,000. The Suns are reported to get forward Johnny Newman (1.575 million) and center Soumaila Samake (465,850) from the Nets and send forward Chris Dudley (7.1 million) to New Jersey.
I ma heading out to Ohio for a family reunion and will be
taking a few days off and gearing up for a busy July. I’ll be attending the
Nike All-American Camp Nike All-American camp
July 8-10, Nike Peach Jam July 12-15, Rocky Mountain Revue July 20-25 and
adidas Big Time Tournament July 25-29 and providing recaps of all these events.
In addition, you’ll get all the hottest recruiting news and latest commitments,
free agent signings and much more.

The 2001 NBA draft will go down in history as a record-breaking event.
Four high schoolers were selected in the first round, including three of the
top four picks. Twenty-five underclassmen were drafted in the first round,
breaking last year’s mark of 18. Only one senior was selected among the top 19
picks.
